Plan together 

Form your own Awhi Tree group with parents from school, friends, family & colleagues.  You choose how you will approach the days.  Awhi Tree provides access to a venue, a start-up guide & documents to help you plan.*  Our insurance covers the carers, the children, the buildings and property where your group is based. 

*At this startup stage, most of the organising gets done for you*

Neutral venues

Each group decides what times or dates care is needed for. The venues arranged by Awhi Tree are easily accessible & child-friendly spaces, such as schools*, marae or other community buildings.

*So far, we have been blessed with the support of Makaraka School, Gisborne Intermediate, Te Wharau and Campion. We welcome any other schools/ venue providers to jump onboard our waka. Please contact us if you can help.

Take turns, 1 in 4

You and a minimum of one other parent/supervisor co-play with the kids 1 day of the week. This then entitles you to 4 days of supervision for your children after that as the other parents will cover the remaining days. Each supervisor has been 'active' in the roster building and is aware of his/her specific tasks before and/or during care.

Affordable

Proposed: Yearly family membership costs $99.* This covers vetting, insurance, venue use and admin.  'Play as you go' days are charged at a flat rate of $5/day/child* (excludes your day as supervisor) .  Any extra expenses are decided on at group level.  Sharing care is highly cost-effective compared to the average $50/day/child care options that are currently available.

*As we are yet to secure employers' buy-in, the July school holidays will run at a flat fee of $10/child/day, excluding the day of care*

Running your own Awhi Tree group or joining an existing group is easy. Parents choose who they share care with. The group sets their own rules, their own planning. Awhi Tree links you to a safe venue (school) & provides the necessary tools, documents and support networks to keep the process as simple as possible. It becomes easier when you've done it once. 

Reliable

Awhi Tree is based on the highly successful Belgian 'Cokido' model, which has been extensively trialed and tested. It has been adopted by other EU countries since its inception in 2013.  Social control and safe venues are key. Members are police vetted. Our insurance policy also covers all children, parents, volunteers, as well as the venue buildings.
